Calculate tips and split the bill easily for any meal or service
An $85 dinner with a 20% tip comes to $102 total. Split between 2 people: $8.50 tip each and $51.00 total each.
A $12 coffee order with a 15% tip adds $1.80, bringing the total to $13.80.
A $200 dinner with 18% tip ($36) totals $236. Split 6 ways: $6 tip per person and $39.33 total per person.
In the US, standard tipping for sit-down restaurants is 15-20% of the pre-tax bill. 15% is considered adequate service, 18% for good service, and 20%+ for excellent service. For takeout, 10-15% is common. For delivery, 15-20% or at least $5.
Technically, you should tip on the pre-tax bill amount since the tax goes to the government, not the restaurant. However, tipping on the post-tax amount is also common and the difference is usually small.
The simplest approach is to divide the total (bill + tip) equally among everyone. If orders varied significantly in price, some groups prefer each person to calculate their share individually and then add their own tip.
